Short Film: CONNIE

CONNIE

Director: Cat Davies. Starring: Catrin Stewart, David Puckridge.

Wannabe stand-up Dolly Diggs suffers from stage fright. To overcome her fear, she plans to become a ventriloquist and thinks she’s found just the puppet to help. Enter bold, brassy, sassy and sickening, the sequinned killer under two feet tall, Connie. But Connie is no ordinary puppet… She’s a living doll. As Dolly and Connie take the London comedy scene by storm, Connie begins to take over Dolly’s life. Meeting fellow ventriloquist, Ollie Bloom, Dolly is encouraged to leave Connie behind and go solo, making it a supernatural bitch fight to the end.

A comedy horror with a foul-mouthed, loud-mouthed, felt-mouthed star.

Connie has already taken festivals worldwide by storm so we’re pleased to have her on our schedule and making her Northern Regional Premiere. Producer James Moran (writer of Cockneys vs Zombies and Doctor Who) and director Cat have also released their latest short Blood Shed, which we’ll also be screening.

Feature Film: THE HOUSE OF SCREAMING DEATH

THE HOUSE OF SCREAMING DEATH

Director: David Hastings. Starring: Ian McNeice, Tom Loone, Sha’ori Morris,

A dark and stormy night… A collector of the macabre weaves four tales of terror for a group of very special guests. “The Lady in Grey” – 1943; as the flames of war spread, a veteran of the Great War looks back on the history of Bray Manor and the ghosts that haunt him and the hallways of the ancient house. “The Witch in the Mirror” – 1970; Lily Proctor inherits the old house and as the spirit of a witch trapped in the Netherworld by the spectral Necromancers tries desperately to escape back into our realm a dark secret from Lily’s past is revealed. “The Vampyre” – 1888; following a string of killings a young gentleman comes to Bray Manor. Painted as an outcast by the villagers he befriends a helpless stranger, but his kind heart may be his own undoing. “The Diabolique” – Sam Campbell finds himself at the center of strange happenings as an ancient, demonic spirit strives to break into our world. Each of these stories has a sting in its tail, but the final revelations of who the Architect is may just be the biggest shock of all.

In the style of the classic Amicus anthologies, this old-school chiller is for fans of literary horror.

Short Film: WORKING LATE

WORKING LATE

Director: David Gilbank. Starring: Jamie Smelt, Kathryn Hanke, Tom Jackson.

A suspicious wife confronts her husband when he arrives home late. He offers a litany of increasing outlandish excuses to explain his tardiness, none of which are believed. Tired of his lies, she accuses him of working late at the office and throws him out of the house.

Dragging his suitcase behind him, he retreats back to a waiting car. Inside sits his boss, who has been part of the conspiracy to conceal the truth from his wife…

David’s brilliant Polterheist was screened last year, and while this isn’t a genre effort, it is fun and will make a welcome relief from the blood, gore, and fantasy of the rest of the bill. David is currently filming the feature film version of Polterheist, which we can’t wait for!
